For the record. An example is the first link under "February 02,
2005" on http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-cvs/2005-02/. The subject line
listed is "gcc/gcc/java ChangeLog gcj.texi", but the link brings me to
msg00139.htlm which is about invoke.texi and gcc.texi.

Obviously we had some fallout between the mail archiving and the web
archiving, but I'm not too sure why the web index disagrees with the
web pages.

Ian

every time I click onto a message link another message opens. The
index seems to be corrupted somehow.

I assume that Angela was backing up the directory while it was being
actively updated so some of the html files which refer to other files
may be out of sync.

That's what I'd guess, too, since there's really no time when
everything is quiet.

Yeah, we're going to have to abandon the current archives - it's
more trouble than it's worth to try to recover. I just got back
from the birthday party thing - I have to finish some photo stuff
but I'll do something about the web archives later on tonight.

I think I've found a fairly easy way to regenerate these files by adding
the -editidx option to the mhonarc command line.

I'm trying this now.

It seems like mha-dbrecover does the trick.

It does not get missing messages into the archive, of course, but it
does seem to fix the bad reference problem.

(I'm not going to try to get missing messages into the archive since I
don't see any way to do that. The qmail archives are in a different
state than the web archives and there's no easy way of knowing how
to edit the two.)

All that seemed to be necessary was running mha-dbrecover in an affected
archive directory. The indexes will then be out-of-sync until the next
update, at which point it seems like things will be rectified.

Rather than wait for the next update I hacked at www-archives.sh and
created a script to make it do it.

(I ended up creating some empty text files in the process before I
nuked that part. I hope that won't be a problem. Of course, it wouldn't
be a true mhonarc experience if I didn't introduce one problem while
trying to solve another.)

So, I've just (hopefully) fixed the cygwin, cygwin-cvs, gcc, gcc-help,
gcc-cvs, and gcc-patches, gdb, gdb-cvs, gdb-patches, binutils, and
ecos-discuss with this method.

Here's how you run the script:

/sourceware/infra/bin/reindexml gcc gdb ecos-discuss cygwin ...

i.e., just supply mailing list names on the command line.

Anyone with root access should have no problems running this.
