Joseph Meyers has filed a GNATS PR as a mail to overseers has not resulted
in a fix for the problem that we still refer to sources.redhat.com instead
of gcc.gnu.org for the libstdc++ mbox archives:

  http://gcc.gnu.org/cgi-bin/gnatsweb.pl?cmd=view&pr=1022&database=gcc

I would have tried to fix this by myself, but the mailing list archives
still are physically located in the sourceware path (and I do not have
the appropriate permissions).

Could someone please physically move those three libstdc++ mailing lists
into the GCC web tree and change the permissions accordingly?

Thanks,
Gerald

I'm not going to be able to look at it. However, I did just add you to
the folks that can log into the root account using ssh, so you can tackle
this kind of stuff yourself (in your copious spare time :-)

Same key you use for your normal access.

I was afraid this would happen some day. ;-)

A couple of issues with the libstdc++ list archives I could now fix by
myself, but there is one task which I really don't want to touch (yet).

We must move the mail archives of libstdc++ from /www/sourceware/ml to
/www/gcc/ml, as apparently a couple of scripts use the directory to do
decide which domain name to add (for links to mbox archives, etc.)

Doing a simply mv certainly is not hard, however one probably should stop
the mail system while doing that and update the archiving software config
as well.

Okay, after reading (all?) relevant scripts on gcc.gnu.org/sources I felt
brave tonight and moved the archives.

And, it seems to work. :-)

Now we'll be able to deal with the search engine etc. in a proper way...

Did you happen to write down what you did so that we can document this
somewhere? As you probably know, there is a
http://sources.redhat.com/sourceware/ web page which details a lot of
odds and ends for this.

If you have documented this maybe it belongs under the "Internal
notes/procedures" section.

No particular magic, I just regenerated the htdig databases.
It was already described, although the description was a bit out of date.
The ml archive notes needed a reference to updating the htdig db:s.
Check the latest changes to notes/htdig.html and notes/list-archives.html.

Okay, here we go:

<h2>How to move a mailing-list $LISTNAME from sources to gcc.gnu.org</h2>
<ol>
<li>Support both addresses, $LISTNAME@sources.redhat.com and

Looks like you took care of that.

/www/sourceware/ml & /www/gcc/ml are on the same filesystem, so a "mv" is
atomic. The trick (of course) is the archiver.

One possibility is to turn off the mail system completely for a few minutes,
if we wanted absolute certainty that no messages were lost, that'd be the
best solution. If we could survive missing a message or two, then just
editing the config files would be sufficient.

I note you've already done this work. Thanks.

Thanks,
Gerald

Okay, after reading (all?) relevant scripts on gcc.gnu.org/sources I felt
brave tonight and moved the archives.

And, it seems to work. :-)

Now we'll be able to deal with the search engine etc. in a proper way...

Thanks.

Hi,

I haven't received any reply, so I though I'd better double check. Would
someone mind adding this to the sourceware site?

Tom, I suspect, will find this useful when moving the java mailing lists.

Actually I wrote "mind adding", not "mind me adding". :-) :-)

But, I have now updated < http://sources.redhat.com/sourceware/lists.html >
with all I now.

Perhaps you could fill in the "Jeff knows how to do this" part?
