after calling: elm.hasAttribute("target") (elm is a org.w3c.dom.Node recast as an Element) I get: java.lang.NullPointerException at _Jv_equalUtf8Consts(_Jv_Utf8Const, _Jv_Utf8Const) (/lib/ssa/libgcj.so.4.0.0) at ActionNode.ActionNode(org.w3c.dom.Node) (/home/com_/public_html/Thesis/src/v0.01/last/map/ActionNode.java:19) any suggestions?? Ray PS: Using new PPC rpms on ibook2.

As I recall, this particular failure usually indicates an old or buggy
linker.
Tom
It appears that my binutils is the same version as that of RH 9.0
(binutils-2.13.90.0.18). Do you still think I need a newer one that
that??

Honestly I don't know. Not all platforms are the same as regards ld.
I haven't been doing much PPC work lately. Perhaps there's some other
explanation for the problem, but offhand I wouldn't know what it could
be.
Tom
Thanks much anyway, I'll post this to the gcj list and see if anything
comes up.
