    PR13609: Fixed interrupts and race conditions
    
     - Interrupts are now handled properly. They
       wait for any outstanding threads to finish
       before exiting (unless a timeout occurs or
       another interrupt happens)
     - client_version is now local
     - spawned_pids[] is now protected
