Would it be fair to summarize the prior comment by saying that these test cases
deliberately eat CPU in order to test performance statistics of those
optimizations.  So the "soft lockup" is only an indication of the test running
a long time, not any sort of deep problem.  One could for example reduce the
loop iterations by a factor or two on slower machines.

I don't know about the division-by-zero part.
