In case anyone here hasn't seen Tom's new logging in action, look at

	http://sourceware.cygnus.com/ml/gdb-cvs/2000-q1/

I thought it would be neat to get the diffs for these commit messages
(think ``patchsets'') so I did a little lynx slobber and now I have a
script where you run

 getpatches.sh http://sourceware.cygnus.com/ml/gdb-cvs/2000-q1/msg00031.html

and you get a nice unidiff of the changes in this commit.

Share and enjoy,

Jason

Hello:

I have created a recursive build package for my colleagues using GNU
Make. One of the users has reported the following error today, which I am
reproducing in its entirety with an explanation of what each line means.
The error went away, pretty much by itself when the user re-issued the
make command again.

I am also attaching herewith the cygcheck.out file that contains the
output of the cygcheck program run on the said user's machine. Thanks in
advance for any insight (and possible remedy) that you may provide.

Regards,
Sid R.C.

C:\code\build>make
Make: make -C ../boot TARGET=boot.lib LIBDIR=submk IMAGETYPE=lib
NOAUTODEP= SUBMKARGS= -f makefile.boot
make[1]: Entering directory
`/cygdrive/c/Simba/code/l1_cphy_setup/boot'
make[1]: Nothing to be done for `bld'.
make[1]: Leaving directory
`/cygdrive/c/Simba/code/l1_cphy_setup/boot'

Make: make -C ../common TARGET=common.lib LIBDIR=submk IMAGETYPE=lib
NOAUTODEP= SUBMKARGS= -f makefile.com
C:\utils\cygwin\bin\make.exe: *** couldn't send signal 20
make: *** [../common/submk/common.lib] Error 1
In the above, the user issued the top-level make command from the
directory C:\code\build. The makefile therein defines recursive builds in
three other directories, the first two of which are ../boot and
../common. The makefile scripts in the two paths are respectively
makefile.boot and makefile.com.

The command-line macros appearing in the echoed recursive make
invocations dictate the names, types and locations of the targets to be
built by each.

Subject: GNU Make error: "couldn't send signal 20"

NOAUTODEP= SUBMKARGS= -f makefile.boot
make[1]: Entering directory
`/cygdrive/c/Simba/code/l1_cphy_setup/boot'
make[1]: Nothing to be done for `bld'.
make[1]: Leaving directory
`/cygdrive/c/Simba/code/l1_cphy_setup/boot'

Make: make -C ../common TARGET=common.lib LIBDIR=submk IMAGETYPE=lib
NOAUTODEP= SUBMKARGS= -f makefile.com
C:\utils\cygwin\bin\make.exe: *** couldn't send signal 20
make: *** [../common/submk/common.lib] Error 1
In the above, the user issued the top-level make command from the
directory C:\code\build. The makefile therein defines recursive builds in
three other directories, the first two of which are ../boot and
../common. The makefile scripts in the two paths are respectively
makefile.boot and makefile.com.

The command-line macros appearing in the echoed recursive make
invocations dictate the names, types and locations of the targets to be
built by each.

Chistopher,
If you read this list, then thank you for changing the SPAM blocking
rules. I appreciate the time you took to effect this change and
apologise, once again, for the personal emails that I sent to you and
others. (Even if you don't read this list, I still thank you).

In the mean time, I will continue to complain to my (corporate) ISP
regarding their membership in the ORBS database. I thought Charles
Wilson's post was very illuminating. I wonder if that is what caused my
problem with HarvardNet in the first place.

Anyway... thanks again. Perhaps now I can start to contribute (once I
get a few of my saved up questions/problems addressed).
