Hi Everyone,
The 2.38 branch has now been created:
git clone git://sourceware.org/git/binutils-gdb.git -b binutils-2_38-branch
A snapshot of the sources is also available here:
https://sourceware.org/pub/binutils/snapshots/binutils-2.37.90.tar.xz
Please could all patches for the branch be run by me.
The rules for the branch are:
* No new features.
* Target specific bug fixes are OK.
* Generic bug fixes are OK if they are important and widely tested.
* Documentation updates/fixes are OK.
* Translation updates are OK.
* Fixes for testsuite failures are OK.
Ideally I would like to make the release happen in two weeks time,
i.e. Saturday 5th Feb 2022. Which I hope will be enough time for
everyone to get their final fixes in.

The log shows failures caused by gcc inform messages like: ../bfd/../../bfd/elfcode.h: In function 'bfd_elf64_swap_symbol_in': ../bfd/../../bfd/elfcode.h:189:16: note: the layout of aggregates containing vectors with 2-byte alignment has changed in GCC 5 189 | dst->st_info = H_GET_8 (abfd, src->st_info); Don't ask me why you're getting that inform message. There are no vector fields let alone 2-byte aligned vector fields in either elf_internal_sym or Elf64_External_Sym. Anyway, dejagnu fails a test on any unexpected output that isn't trimmed by prune_warnings. Sorry - that feature was too new to get into the 2.38 release. But... Fedora rawhide binutils only uses the 2.38 release as a starting point. So it is entirely possible that output section type patch can be added on. Just ask the Fedora binutils maintainer. Oh, wait, that is me.
