Hi Jon,
following our previous discussion about setup.hint transition.
As Yaakov asked to rebuild mutt, that I just rebuild last week
I have the problem of what to do of the current "setup.hint",
as "calm" did not allow to remove last time.

Current situation

mutt-1.7.0-1-src.tar.xz 27-Aug-2016 21:00 4M
mutt-1.7.0-1.tar.xz 27-Aug-2016 21:00 1M
mutt-1.7.1-1-src.tar.xz 09-Oct-2016 13:26 4M
mutt-1.7.1-1.hint 09-Oct-2016 13:26 242
mutt-1.7.1-1.tar.xz 09-Oct-2016 13:26 1M
setup.hint 27-Aug-2016 21:00 242

If I upload a mutt-1.7.1-2 version and remove completely mutt-1.7.0-1
the remaining setup.hint will refer to a not more existing
version.

Let me know how to proceed.
No hurry, I will have no time for a new release before next week
anyway.

Regards
Marco

This idea was discussed in this very mailing list very recently.

I'm not sure why you *have* to know that Corinna is the maintainer. If
you have problems with the package, you send email to cygwin-apps or
cygwin@cygwin. There's no need for you to enter into a private dialog
with the maintainer.

If you are really curious about who is maintaining the package then perusal
of the cygwin-announce archives would satisfy your curiousity.

It looks like we are going to need a cygwin-apps FAQ, soon, too.

Na, I mean send an email to the list but be able to say something
like 'Hi Corinna, I don't mean to step on your toes but...'

Anyway - it was just an idea ;) No worries :)

That's what I'm trying to avoid all the time. I don't want
to get always two message of the same content, just because
I'm Cc'd. What sense is in that?

For one, I don't know the maintainers of all our packages. ;-)
For the team of maintainers it would exactly have the purpose
of your setup.hint suggestion has but w/o being public.

Fair enough. Loose the email address then :) But remember that
*very* few people download the setup.hint file. I didn't even
realise it existed until I thought about producing a package and
I didn't realise it was available for download from the mirrors
before this morning and I've been using Cygwin for the last two
and a half years!

I just thought, when I'd had a question about the maintence of
X it would be nice to personally address the person (even if
the email goes to the list...)

BTW, what are the good reasons you can see for a list of
maintainer => package relationships?

Ack! I can see a good reason for a list of maintainer => package
relations but I can very easily live without people bugging me
in private email.

I can't even see any reason for private conversation about official
packages. This is public property. Questions, bug reports, etc.
about packages or Cygwin itself should always go to the list, not
to a single person.

Would it be a good idea for the setup.hint file to have something along the
lines of:

Maintainer: John Morrison
Contact: John.Morrison@uk.experian.com

? This would allow folks to email the maintainer directly without having to
bug the list.
For example, I didn't know that Corinna was the maintainer of the 'which'
package.

Just an idea.
