Damn. I went and typo'd it trying that out and accidentally ran "exec --neverexist". Now my network drive has disappeared and
there's this fairly ominous-looking swirly glowing void where the server room used to be .... and it's getting bigger ... it's
coming closer ....

"I think not," said Descartes, and promptly disappeared.

This reminds me of the old New York Times cartoon of a fly sitting on the
wall with a thought bubble that says "I don't think, therefore I am not".

You mean the one that used to be where the swirly void is?

ummmmm. No, the computer, ummm, at his desk. I mean who wants a
computer that's been sucked into a swirly void. That's just silly.

Dave wants the computer that's been sucked into a swirly void.
Especially considering that he's been sucked into the same void a
microsecond earlier... Now, to work on standardizing IP over Cherenkov
radiation...

<echoey and distant> Actually it's quite nice in here, as long as you
aren't bothered by the gentle swirling and the weird lights and shapes and
colours and stuff. It's like something out of that twilighty show about
that zone.

No, no, you misunderstood -- he doesn't actually *send* any bits. He
piggy-backs them on the particles coming *in*. Sort of like extracting
two-way bandwidth out of a one-way connection...

I hope you guys are getting this all... it's a real pain to have to send
emails by repeatedly adjusting the angle of the polarising filter that I'm
using to opportunistically send a zero or one every time one half of a pair
of entangled photons falls in....

You mean you do it *by hand*? What happened to all the servers that fell
in with you? And don't talk to me about intractability -- you've got all
the time in the world!

Someone, quick, tangle some photons and send them Dave's way...
