Thanks for the hint, never thought about using bio-active ecological
cleaners.  I just don't get on with cats.  Is there a cleaning hippo 
available anywhere?

Hmm, not that I know of.  Come to think of it, a hippo would be more
effective -- one lick per monitor, more or less...  It's just not as
portable.

We're talking about my desktop TFT, not my laptop, so portability is
not an issue here...
