* gimp-help-*-2.8.1-1

* gegl-0.2.0-7
* libgegl0.2_0-0.2.0-7
* libgegl0.2-devel-0.2.0-7
* libopenraw1-0.0.9-3
* libopenraw-devel-0.0.9-3
* libopenrawgnome1-0.0.9-3
* libopenrawgnome-devel-0.0.9-3
* gdk-pixbuf2.0-openraw-0.0.9-3

The GNU Image Manipulation Program is a multi-platform photo
manipulation tool. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert
quality photo retouching program, an online batch processing system, a
mass production image renderer, an image format converter, etc. GIMP is
expandable and extensible. It is designed to be augmented with plug-ins
and extensions to do just about anything. The advanced scripting
interface allows everything from the simplest task to the most complex
image manipulation procedures to be easily scripted.

Whoo hoo!

In the world of windows I use only Outlook (frequently) and The Gimp (occasionally). Having The Gimp under CYGWIN remove all the tiny bits of clumsiness that I have now.

Thanks. (Now to go to work on Outlook.)

You're welcome.

I already did; it's called 'evolution', which I use on a daily basis for
both mail and calendaring.

And introduce a new clumsiness in requiring to run X server.
Sorry, but I prefer native GIMP.

I tried Evolution, but it wasn't obvious how to get it going and I wasn't patient. It also loaded lots of extra stuff, including gamin which runs gam_server (IIRC) like a service. It was eating CPU on occasion, and I couldn't figure out how to stop it, and that made updating CYGWIN difficult if not impossible.

However, you're inspiring me to go back and see if I can find anything like a HOWTO for Evolution.

gamin is a session service; it will exit shortly after the X session
ends. As for CPU usage, I have the following:

$ cat ~/.gaminrc
fsset ntfs poll 10
fsset vfat none

Obviously this means that gamin will be a bit slower to catch changes,
but that's usually sufficient.

Make sure you have the cygserver service installed and running, then
start an X session (such as XWin Server or a desktop). If you want to
use a Google or Windows Live account, first configure those through
Preferences->Online Accounts (in gnome-control-center). Otherwise, just
run Office->Evolution and follow the wizard to get started.

That module depends on libumfpack0. Does cygcheck show a missing DLL
dependency?

Forgive the obvious question, but is /usr/lib/lapack in your PATH?

There's a script in /etc/profile.d that puts it in PATH. Most likely,
Volker just has to start a new shell after installing liblapack0. I've
been bitten by this a couple times.

Yup, a PATH problem. Everythings fine now.

Ciao

I'll say it again, none of that would be necessary if we could figure
out how to have the alternatives system put the correct cyglapack DLL
into /bin (a symlink won't do unfortunately, although a native symlink
might).

Achim.

Hardlink would be more portable at this point.
