Hello,

Thank you for your kind assistance.

   I got Cygwin b20.1 from www.go.cygwin.com

I installed as per the instructions given in "Installing PRC-Tools with
Cygwin" under http://www.palmos.com/dev/tech/tools/gcc/install-win.html .

Now I am going to start my coding part.

   Once again Thank You.

Regds,
Anitha

Well, that's not what the Cygwin community wanted to hear, but that's
not your problem.

It turns out that Palm, Inc. distributes b20.1 (full.exe I think,
though they don't quite call it that) from www.palmos.com. Their
palmos version of gcc (and possibly some other tools) apparently
requires it.

That said, I've made myself known on the pilot.programmer.gcc
newsgroup on news.massena.com, which is where all the gcc palm
programmers hang out (or should hang out).

It seems that there is an active effort to modernise the palm gcc
tools to be compatible with the current Cygwin. I'll try to help with
that effort. For the sake of completeness, its home page is
< http://prc-tools.sourceforge.net/ >.

I also promised that we wouldn't actively pursue palmos.com to pull
their b20.1 distribution, at least not until they have updated their
tools. Is that reasonable?

Thanks,
David

/home is created on the first successful login. So now we need to figure
out why your login was not successful.

When this happens, something to try is open a cmd.com window, change
directories to where the binaries were installed (in your case,
c:\cygwin\bin), then run '.\bash --login -i' and see if any error messages
appear. You can also run '.\bash -livx' for a verbose login, to see
which, if any, command being run during the login process is a culprit.

Correct, that is the default .bat file installed by setup.exe.

Something else you should do is look at these directions:
> Problem reports: http://cygwin.com/problems.html

In particular, the part about including the output of 'cygcheck -svr' as a
text attachment will help us learn more about your setup, and perhaps make
it easier to diagnose the problem.

I have a serious problem on installing Cygwin.
The installation in the root folder "C:/cygwin/", results in no "/home"
directory.
And when I try to click "Cygwin Bash Shell" from start menu, no action is
happening.
I tried to install many times but nothing helps me. What could be the
problem.
Earlier when I tried to open cygwin, it opens an editor "PHPEdit" with the
following content.

@echo off

C:
chdir C:\cygwin\bin

bash --login -i

But now, even this is not happening.

I just went there and they not only have b20 but b19 and b18 too. What
happened to b17? ;-)

I know Chris.
All they have is b18, b19, and b20.
None of the new stuff.
Too bad.
They have two mirrors there, one of them being sources.Cygnus.com
.

Indeed. I have been trying for more than six months to get this mirror
to either go away or update their site.

It just occurred to me that the cygnus.com domain must be controlled by
Red Hat, so I should be able to have someone remove the "go" machine from
our domain, at least.

Yikes, so they do. It would be a great project for someone to take on
to rewrite Palm, Inc.'s instructions for installing PRC-Tools. This
is probably best co-ordinated through the gcc newgroup at massena.com
(if that still exists). Maybe a Palm-gcc programmer there has already
done it. (As opposed to me, for whom palm programming is still just a
fantasy...) You don't mention whether you've been there.

If you're just talking about Cygwin setup (and not PRC-Tools from
Palm.com) then this sounds like a botched setup. Try again, and if
setup is not listing packages to install, the easiest thing to do is
to delete all Cygwin directories (installation and download) and try
again. (You can be more sophisticated by only deleting files that
setup uses, but why bother, unless you're on a slow connection and
can't afford to re-download everything.) If you're going to pick and
choose which packages to install to support PRC-Tools, you're not
going to get much support from us. Our advice is to install
everything. (B20.1 was a monolithic "full" install, comparable to
installing all packages with setup.)

Hmm, well now, whose problem is that?!?

Hello,

I need to download PRC-Tools. This is the first time I am using it. I
followed the instructions given
in http://www.palmos.com/dev/tech/tools/gcc/install-win.html .
The documentation says for windows it is better to use a combination of this

(cygwin b20.1, PRC-Tools 2.0, PilRc for Win32, Palm OS SDK, Palm OS
Emulator) as it is been tested.

First i tried finding cygwin b20.1 since i could not get it, i installed the
latest ver. 1.3.2. while installing it is asking to select the package
required. But no pacakge is been provided. After installation is it saying "
No installation is needed" and the folders under c:\cygwin\lib, bin and few
folders are empty.

Please can u suggest something on this. We need to deliver a project in a
short span of time.

your immediate response is kindly appreciated.

with regds,
Anitha
