Well, I don't think I could have built it (at least, not so easily)
without Cygwin.

Yep, for sure.

Two big problems solved, when using makefiles (which I use a lot
under Windows, with Python, to build things):

1) backslashes vs forward slashes. Not so big, but annoying

2) command line length! Was a real problem.

Here Here! - especially the part about an indispensable 'part of
windows'. I am a command prompt junky anyway; now I keep a cygwin
prompt available on any win box i need to use regurlarly.

It's not a product, it's a project. Red Hat sells a product, however. You
can get support with the product, too.

I'm sure there are all sorts of problems, yes:

The basic reason for Cygwin was to provide a method for Red Hat to build
and distribute GNU compilers and the GNU debugger on Windows. I'd guess
that the most popular reason for using it is to get the same free stuff
on Windows that you can on Linux.

Hello,

I just wanted to thank all the people who have made cygwin and EGCS
available and relatively easy to use. I am not a C programmer and I
compiled lynx 2.8 on my PC in only a couple of hours. All I needed was
the ncurses library. It is the first time something relatively large
has worked for me and I am pretty happy about it.
