Hi.

Let me get this straight.

1) Whoever writes the program files using whatever editor in windows.
2) Now before we can use those program files it must
first be converted using dos2unix?
3) Now what will be the next step??
Before we use windows text files we have to convert them like we did 10
years ago, when we used awk in a *nix environment?
4) I fail to see this point. Why should the program files be
in *nix format - will this eventually apply to other
source files like "C" as well?
5) Now we have to physically QA each source program file
to make sure its in *nix format on winbloze machines!
6) Why change the concept of using M$ dos terminated files
as is?

Please bear with me - I do NOT like M$.
But I do not understand this change in the behaviour of awk.

I missing something?

TX

ps. I think the previous reply went to the wrong place

Pieter,

I don't know why your cygwin installation stopped translating CRLF's after
upgrade, but there're many places you could look for an answer (for instance
http://www.cygwin.com/cygwin-ug-net/using-textbinary.html).

CRLF translation is controlled by the mount type and the setting of the
CYGWIN variable. Specifically, if gawk doesn't open files in text mode, your
files need to be mounted in a textmode partition.

Before we can help, please switch to a cygwin window and type :

~>echo $CYGWIN
....
~> cd directory_with_awk_files; /bin/pwd ; pwd
....
~> mount
....

Post the output of the commands to the group. To be in line with the bug
reporting guidelines presented at http://www.cygwin.com/bugs.html, you could
also post the results of running

~> cygcheck -s -v -r > cygcheck.out

but I believe the CYGWIN setting and mount types may hint to your problem.

Just to clarify this issue for the archives: 'cygcheck -s -v -r' will
include both the value of the CYGWIN variable and the mounts.
