Hey Guys,
I have an unusualness in the new setup. I have a custom
setup.ini to install some additional packages unique to my
environment. I know that is not something supported by the
community and my question is not how to solve the problem so
much as what changed between the previous setup and this one
that would cause both add on packages to fail. The setup
program does not even list them in the category listings. I
have compared thier ini entries with the other entries in the
file and I can't see any descrepancies, I am including them
	below.

@ bcs
sdesc: "Baseline Configuration System, Internet Services"
category: Base
requires: cygwin bash openssh binutils
version: 1.4
install: latest/bcs/bcs_1.4.tar.bz2 5060
[prev]
version: 1.3
install: latest/bcs/bcs_1.3.tar.bz2 4633

@ tcp_wrappers
sdesc: "TCP Wrappers, Tool to provide host based access restrictions in
tcp services"
category: Base Net
requires: cygwin
version: 7.6
install: latest/tcp_wrappers/tcp_wrappers_7.6.tar.bz2 48890

Neither of these install under the new setup, nor do they appear in any
of the lists, ideas? Previous setup still works with this.

Something in the above paragraph is fictional. I'm going to assume it's
the setup version. (2.125.x don't use per-mirror directories).

It's going to install from a random directory. Or it might format your
hard disk. I'm not 100% sure because I haven't looked up the phase of
the moon and that's really important to determine what will happen.

Seriously, do you think we'd release known-broken software? (Minor
glitches, yes, broken no). Just keep using it *exactly* as you did
before. Ignore what it does for IT's OWN HOUSEKEEPING. The contents of
the 'local dir' you give it are under it's control. Unless it
misbehaves, you can just ignore it.

If you use different mirror sites you will get mulitple per-mirror
directories. You can also *merge* the contents of mirror sites on the
fly, to get a view of multiple mirrors/providers. For example I use this
to look at Charles Wilson's pre-test packages from my normal install
window.

Dear all,

I have installed the new setup 2.125.2.10 and I am installing new binaries
from one of the mirror sites. What I notice is that when I install from the
internet setup creates a new directory on my windows file system. In that
new directory setup stores the setup.ini and the contrib plus latest
directories. The directory name now is called
ftp%3a%2fmirrors.rcn.net%2fmirrors ....... while the contrib and latest
directory were created in the local package directory itselve.

Is setup now going to install from this new directory or is it not going to
find the binaries. What is different between the new approach and the one
from a few weeks ago. What can I do to get it working again as before. When
I use different mirror sites what result will this have on my installation?

regards,
Danny

Ok, double checked and they are the same. To give more information, I
am performing an "Install from Local Directory", the modified setup.ini
is "F:\Installs\cygwin\setup.ini" and the local package directory is
specified as "F:\Installs\cygwin".

Top of ini file contains the following:
# This file is automatically generated. If you edit it, your
# edits will be discarded next time the file is generated.
# See http://cygwin.com/setup.html for details.
#
setup-timestamp: 1015516818
setup-version: 2.125.2.10

I am boggled, not sure what the new setup is filtering upon that the old
did not. If there is anything else that changed, that we can look at,
let me know and I will send that info.

Is the size exactly right? The new setup.exe cross references the local
ini against the present files...

Yes. This is expected (but not desired). We are working on solutions.

Dear list,

I'd like to share my experience with the new setup.exe.
I hope this could resolve the newly arrising post on setup.exe, vim.exe, and cygintl.dll.

1. First Case

- I have cygwin (full package) installed using previous setup.exe

- Using the new setup.exe has no problem

2. Second Case

- I have a new pc, and tried download packages using the new setup.exe

- Problem :

     Only base category is selected.
No full install option (Don't we need this?)
I have to toggle each package from skip->source->version 1->version 2(if any)
If there is no version 2, it goes to skip step.
Then, I have to toggle again and again to get version 1.
So, I did not checked whether there is version 2 or not.
Stopped toggling at the first version appears. (We have many packages)
And installed them, which resulted vim-cygintl.dll error.

Now, here's my solution.

RUN setup.exe again to download new or current packages.
Even if you checked <current> in cygwin setup , not <previous>,
you may have previous packages.
Install new packages.

That's it.

Jong B. Lee
