Even better, how about you remove yourself, by following the

started maximized, it will be re-maximized every time it changes it's
icon to indicate that new email is received)

I think this update breaks XWin for me. When starting any client (gvim,
emacs-X11), I get a broken window, sometimes empty, sometimes partially
filled. I cannot click the content, the click just goes through to the
window below, which brings the bottom window up. If I focus the broken
window (through the taskbar), I seem to be able to interact with the
program, e.g. after inserting something in gvim using the keyboard, the
title reflects this through the modified flag ('+'). But again, the
content stays empty.

If I run XWin without multiwindow, the program (gvim or emacs) renders
just fine in the XWin window.

If I revert back to 1.17.1-4, multiwindow works just fine as well.

R.

Thanks for reporting this.

This is rather puzzling, as the change in 1.17.1-5 was not directly
related to how windows are rendered.

Can you provide some more details? e.g. an XWin.0.log so I can see if
that shows anything unusual? Are these local X clients?

You might also like to try the latest snapshot [1] to see if that
behaves any differently.

Thank you very much for picking this up.

After quite some time looking, I think I have found the culprit. I am
using UltraMon on my system. It seems like the changes in 1.17.1-5
interact badly with the Window management feature [1]. The good news
is, this feature can be disabled by program. After excluding XWin.exe,
everything is back to normal. Sorry for the noise, but it's the first
time I have had a problem with either program, so it was hard to make
the connection. I'll probably notify the UltraMon authors, to consider
excluding XWin by default.

Thanks,
Ron

Thanks for that information. Glad to hear you have resolved your issue.

Yes, I'm afraid XWin can be a bit over-sensitive to other programs
touching it's windows :S

The following packages have been updated in the Cygwin distribution:

*** xorg-server-*1.17.2-1

These packages contain XWin and the other X.Org X11 servers.

In addition to upstream fixes [1], the following cygwin-specific changes
have been made since 1.17.1-5:

* Only apply MINIMIZE or MAXIMIZE styles from XWinrc when mapping a window
* Ensure WM_TRANSIENT_FOR windows are always parented
* Downgrade a warning when the experimental crashreporter isn't present
to debug
* When a SEGV occurs checking WGL, disable WGL and continue, rather than
exiting
* Report invalid options in combination with -nodecoration
* Add support for a SKIPTASKBAR style in XWinrc

These packages are currently marked as a test release because they
contain changes to code critical to the correct functioning of
multiwindow mode, so there is a higher than normal risk of regressions.
They will be made stable in approximately two weeks if no major
regressions are reported.

NOTEWORTHY CHANGES IN 1.17
==========================

The creation of indirect GLX contexts is now prohibited by default. The
+iglx option is required to allow them. See [2] for more information on

'-nolisten tcp' is now the default, so the server only accepts local
connections on a unix domain socket. A '-listen' option has been added
which can be used to restore the previous behaviour.

I ran 3 tests and did not notice any regressions:

1. XDMCP into a RHEL 7.1 host with GDM and launch a gnome classic
session (this tests GLX)
2. SSH -Y into a Fedora 21 host (with XWin in MultiWindow mode) and
launch gnome-terminal
3. SSH -Y into a Fedora 21 host (with XWin in MultiWindow mode) and
launch Firefox 38

These packages have been promoted from test to current.

The following packages have been updated in the Cygwin distribution:

*** xorg-server-*1.17.2-2

These packages contain XWin and the other X.Org X11 servers.

The following cygwin-specific changes have been made since 1.17.2-1:

* In multiwindow mode, enable the maximize window control if a maximum
size larger than the virtual desktop size is specified
Addresses: https://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2015-08/msg00042.html
* In multiwindow mode, give NET_WM_WINDOW_TYPE_DOCK type windows the
SKIPTASKBAR style
* Add an experimental '-compositewm' option for multiwindow mode
* In multiwindow mode, when resizing a window, black fill the area
outside the current window size

EXPERIMENTAL '-compositewm' OPTION
==================================

This experimental option uses Composite extension redirection to
maintain a bitmap image of each top-level X window, so that window
contents which are occluded when the window is not at the top of the
stacking order are shown correctly in task bar and task switcher previews.

This comes at the cost of keeping an additional copy of the bits in the
window image and copying that around a few more times. I'm not sure if
the additional memory use or reduced drawing speed will be noticeable on
any vaguely modern system.

Testing and feedback welcomed.

NOTEWORTHY CHANGES IN 1.17
==========================

The creation of indirect GLX contexts is now prohibited by default. The
+iglx option is required to allow them. See [1] for more information on
possible OpenGL configurations.

'-nolisten tcp' is now the default, so the server only accepts local
connections on a unix domain socket. A '-listen' option has been added
which can be used to restore the previous behaviour.
