Douglas Comer wrote a series of books on these general subjects, narrating
through the development of the academic "Xinu" operating system. They are
essentially text books and are very useful both for reading and as
reference. You might search for his name in amazon.

[Many people actually use Xinu in embedded systems, essentially borrowing
the OS and TCP/IP stack from the source code presented in the book.]

Subject: Re: [ECOS] Books

Since there aren't any eCos specific third party
books, does anyone have recommendations for general
embedded system programming books that would help a
new ecos programmer? Looking for something not too
focussed on one micro or programming language. I'd
prefer more information on:

 - operating systems (in general, embedded, real-time)
 - communication protocols
 - interfacing various peripherals & components (RAM,
DSP, UARTs, converters, etc...)
 - general useful techniques, algorithms, etc...

Each of these subjects could be a book in itself I'm
sure, but one reference to get the basics of
everything would be pretty handy (especially for
people with more of an EE background than CS).

Thanks in advance,

Any comments on these books? Based on reviews from
Amazon.com, Barr's O'Reilly book seems like a good
place to start.

-Operating System Design (Prentice-Hall Software
Series)
by Douglas Comer

-Operating System Design: The XINU Approach, Vol. I
by Douglas Comer

-An Embedded Software Primer
by David E. Simon

-Programming Embedded Systems in C and C ++
by Michael Barr - O'Reilly

Check out http://www.compapp.dcu.ie/~cdaly/embed/books.html for a list of
embedded systems books.

I've found these books (in no particular order) to be informative on
embedded/real-time operating system implementation issues. Unfortunately
some of the older ones are probably out of print.

I am afraid there are no third party books on eCos available yet. For
now people have to make do with the documentation provided.

Hi!
I'm new about programming eCos and I wonder if there are any book about
eCos?
What I meen is not those PDF-files that I can download from RedHat (Reference
Manual etc. ).
