Has anyone started porting eCos to this (or other x86) processor ? I am new
to the GNU tools and would appreciate any help given.

There is no port of eCos to embedded x86 systems available yet, and I
am not aware of anybody doing such a port. However there has been an
impressive amount of interest in this, and a port by Cygnus to
embedded x86 systems is now under consideration
( http://sourceware.cygnus.com/ecos/faq.html#porting_will_cygnus ).

It should be noted that any such port would only be for the 386 and
upwards, not for earlier processors. Currently gcc only supports the
386 and later processors, and eCos has dependencies on gcc
( http://sourceware.cygnus.com/ecos/faq.html#porting_compiler )
