hi everybody,
what do i have to do, to get ecos smaller?
i built a library for the e7t target, only using the following packages:
CYGPKG_HAL_ARM
CYGPKG_HAL_ARM_E7T
CYGPGK_HAL
CYGPKG_KERNEL
CYGPKG_MEMALLOC
CYGPKG_ISOINFRA
CYGPKG_INFRA
when compiling a kernel with a very simple c program the file a.out has a size of 380k, which is much too big i think.
what am i doing wrong?

Hi,
Maybe it's because many debug informations are presents in the ELF file!!
Try an "arm-elf-strip a.out" for suppress it and see the real size !!
or an "arm-elf-size a.out"
Sebastien.

Use arm-elf-size on the file.

Hello All,
I have a simple helloworld.c program
compiles using eCos under Linux (i386).
Ecos is 1.3.1 with standard
configuration.
Compiler is /usr/bin/gcc.
Linux version 6.2
The size of a.out is 567K.
Is there any way to reduce this size ?
Sunil

Hello,
For reduce his size use STRIP programm for suppress all informations debug !!
for an arm platform the name likes "arm-elf-strip"

That's not quite the way. Instead use arm-elf-size to see the actual
size of the executable. Strip only removes some debug info - it does
not take away the ELF metadata.

Is the size of the .elf that big? If you are building a ROM application,
you can try to "objcopy -O binary" it to a bin file and see the size of
that.

Make sure you measure the executable with the 'size' utility
(e.g. sparc-elf-size app.exe), and not just looking at the
file size. Most of the file size is debugging symbols, which
are not loaded into the prom.
Jiri.

Hello,
I want to use ecos with 500kbytes of ROM. I just want to use a 150kbytes C
program. But when I compile, the size of my executable is 900kbytes.
I would want to know how can I reduce the size of eCos. What don't I need ?
thanks

With ecos, ask the question the other way round. Ask what you need, and
drop everything else.
Additionally, some compiler options (e. g. -Os for size optimization)
may help a little.
