This is free software; see the source for copying conditions. There is NO warranty; not even for MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. Output: 18446744071562067968 Workaround: 1. Non-optimized compilation works as expected. 2. Passing fno-builtin-abs to compiler works. g++ a.cpp -O3 -fno-builtin-abs Looking at generated assembly, it looks like implementation of abs is flawed and needs to be fixed. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 5+ messages in thread

You would have seen an error at runtime if you used -fsanitize=undefined. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 5+ messages in thread

You can use -fwrapv. Thanks ! Yes, it's signed integer overflow, is there any way to catch it statically at compile time ? ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 5+ messages in thread

Not really because there would so many false positives, it is not worth the effort. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 5+ messages in thread
