Hi

I'm a relative new user to Linux, here at a computer
lab. I am trying to configure gcc at the moment, and
when i do, i get *** The command "cc -o conftest -g
conftest.c" failed.
*** You must set the enviroment variable CC to a
working compiler.

i have no idea what a compiler is either, all i've
really mastered is MySQL and installing perl modules
with CPAN. Please assist. I'd be eternally grateful.

Hi Andrew,

Well, it looks like, the compiler found by the configure
script is broken, but you should probably look in the
config.log file to find a more detailed explanation. It
could be due to a lot of things.
What kernel and compiler versions are you using?
What does uname -a and gcc -v say?

Yours sincerly,

Bjorn
