Support Group,

I'm trying to install GCC 3.0.2(obtained from GCC website) on a
ibm-aix4.3.2.0 machine. I get the following message when I run the configure
command.

**************** MESSAGE ****************************
Configuring for a powerpc-ibm-aix4.3.2.0 host.
*** This configuration is not supported in the following subdirectories:
     target-libffi target-boehm-gc target-zlib target-libjava
(Any other directories should still work fine.)
Created "Makefile" in /home/devmig/gcc/objgcc using "mt-frag"
../gcc-3.0.2/configure[1474]: cc: not found.
*** The command 'cc -o conftest -g conftest.c' failed.
*** You must set the environment variable CC to a working compiler.
*****************************************************

I'm trying to install the GCC hoping that I can run some perl programs using
the GCC compiler. But what I do not understand is why should this GCC
installation expect a working C Compiler!!!!

Please Explain or correct me If I'm wrong.

Thanks a lot,
Rajah.

You've downloaded a source distribution. If you don't have a working
system compiler, you'll need to start with a binary distribution of GCC;
follow links from:

    http://gcc.gnu.org/install/binaries.html

You may then wish to recompile the source you've downloaded if it's a
more recent GCC or you want different configuration options, etc.

Rup.
