Building GCC on a Mac OS X machine

Hello,

	I was wondering whether it is possible to build gcc-3.4.1 from
scratch (pristine sources from gcc.gnu.org) on OS X.

	1. Does it build properly without hassle ? Does it work, once
built ?

	2. More precisely, are all the prerequisite programs for the build
process listed at http://gcc.gnu.org/install/prerequisites.html available
and functional on OS X.

	3. Does it build reasonably quickly ?

	4. Apart from just building properly and running, does it produce
correct object files/executables/shared libraries for OS X ?

	5. Is any part of GCC broken with respect to OS X ?

	The crux of the matter is "I will be doing development of GCC with
GCC on an OS X machine. I do not want to purchase an OS X machine only to
find that the afore-mentioned objective cannot be fulfilled."

	In particular, the existence of the apple-provided version of the
gcc compiler is pretty much immaterial to me --- I shall use it only for
the initial build of the gcc.gnu.org sources.

	Hoping to hear from people who have built GCC on their OS X
machines, preferrably even those are actively developing the GCC compiler
itself on OS X.

	Can GCC (pristine gcc.gnu.org sources) "shake, rattle and roll" on
OS X ?
