Synopsis: building gcc-3.0.1 from source

    Patch to allow './configure bootstrap' on 3.0.X branch and
    mainline.  'make check' results now seen to be identical.
    Process in place to detect this problem in the future
    before releases (thanks to donated machine time at
    FreeBSD.org).

    I need:
    
    - full command you used to configure top-level of gcc
    - did you configure in source tree or in object tree?
      (it is unclear to me that configuring in source tree
       is currently supported).
    - The actual Makefile that was produced incorrectly.
