gcj calls a gnu.gcj.runtime.StringBuffer and then throws
an .ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException!!!
This seems to happen only when the two String exceed 34
characters. With one less character, the example code
works.

    I'm closing the PR, since the fix went in on 12-12.
    Please try a newer snapshot.
    If that still fails, we can reopen the PR.
    I think that is unlikely, though, as your test case 
    works fine for me.
