PowerPC Linux uses native Dwarf2 exception handling. If
this did not work, the various regression testers would
show numerous failures, which they do not:

Your bug report does not include enough information to
duplicate your problem. I suspect this is a problem with
your specific distribution or configuration.

exceptions don't work unless you configure with --enable-sjlj-exceptions on some platforms. Shouldn't this be the default on those platforms until they get their act together?
