Synopsis: -o does not work when -E and -MD are used
State-Changed-From-To: feedback->closed
State-Changed-By: neil
State-Changed-When: Wed Apr 24 10:43:17 2002
State-Changed-Why:
gcc-3.05 (prerelease), 3.1 and 3.2 have the behaviour you
expect. It looks like the documentation may need updating.

Would you try 3.0.5 (unreleased, from CVS)? There were many fixes to -M* behaviour put in after 3.0.4.
The documentation at
http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/cpp/Invocation.html#Invocation
"If -MD is used in conjunction with -E, any -o switch is understood to specify the dependency output file (but see -MF), ..."
If this describes the behaviour you expect, then this issue is probably fixed in pre-3.0.5.

>Description:
When using the -E and -MD options, the -o option has no effect. The output of the preprocessor is always sent to the standard output. (If -MD is not used, the output is sent to the specified file as expected.)

gcc -E test.c -o test.i -MD
