When building with -O, memset fills the incorrect number of bytes when its parameter is void**.  This problem currently causes incorrect behavior in Mozilla when compiled with gcc 3.1.  This bug is new in gcc 3.1 and did not occur in gcc 3.0.4.

A simple testcase is the following file, to be saved as test.cpp (the bug shows up in C++ but not C):

This will incorrectly fill 3 bytes instead of 1, and produce the output:

Changing the 3 and the 1 in the line that calls do_memset will produce different results, often incorrect as well.  The comment in the source above explains what seems to be happening for |size < 4|.
