 Further to this, I see this problem on a Pentium 4 machine but not on a=20
 PIII. =20
 
 As far as I can tell the two machines are otherwise identical:
  - win2k,
  - standard corporate SOE,
  - up to date cygwin installation
  - same build script
  - same source tree
 
 There are also some fortran tests that work on P3 but fail on P4.
 Will dig up details.

 This problem is still present in gcc mainline post bib merge.
