libgcj wasn't installed. I had to install it, as well as install GNU
classpath and set it as CLASSPATH. After that, gcj now works. Thanks
for the help.
I think gcj should give a more meaningful error message in the case
that libgcj isn't installed, rather than implying it has a bug.

With 3.3 we give a message suggesting that the user check CLASSPATH
and access to the archives.
