If I compile source with -fexceptions and -frtti using both compilers will
the results be binary compatible? That is can I link libraries together that
have been compiled with the different compilers?

Yes. EGCS _is_ gcc 2.8, with Cygnus's integration and patches from users.
The ABI (Application Binary Interface) is the same, at least for now.
There's whispers about a new ABI, but if so, it'll probably be an option for
gcc too.
