linux-2.1.93, binutils-2.8.1.0.29, glibc-2.0.92 (980329), dejagnu-971222 +
H.J. Lu's lookfor_dir_with_trigger patch
--enable-{shared,haifa,threads}
{C,CXX,F77}FLAGS = -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -march=pentium
This time I built in another directory, as recommended.

The gcc failures are:
FAIL: gcc.c-torture/compile/980329-1.c, -O2
Executing on host: /usr/local/src/BUILD/build-egcs-980406/gcc/xgcc -B/usr/local/src/BUILD/build-egcs-980406/gcc/ /usr/local/src/BUILD/egcs-980406/gcc/testsuite/gcc.c-torture/compile/980329-1.c -w -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -finline-functions -c -o /tmp/980329-1.o
compiler exited with status 1
output is:
/tmp/cca25274.s: Assembler messages:
/tmp/cca25274.s:65: Error: register does not match opcode suffix
Line 65 is:
movl -32(%ebp),%esi
and this looks OK to my (untrained) eye. Assembler bug?
FAIL: gcc.dg/980226-1.c (test for excess errors)
Excess errors:
xgcc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 11
This is 100% reproducible, the compiler crashes immediately.
