Dear Sir or Madam:

I recently compiled and installed GCC on my machine, and the specific
configuration was not listed in your successful compilation list.
Therefore, here is all the information requested in "Step 5: Final
Installation"...

[root@L8S9J7 gccinstall]# cat /etc/issue
Red Hat Linux release 7.2 (Enigma)
Kernel \r on an \m

[root@L8S9J7 gccinstall]# uname -a
Linux L8S9J7 2.4.9-34 #1 Sat Jun 1 06:25:16 EDT 2002 i686 unknown
[root@L8S9J7 gccinstall]# rpm -q glibc
glibc-2.2.4-29
[root@L8S9J7 gccinstall]# srcdir/config.guess
i686-pc-linux-gnu
[root@L8S9J7 gccinstall]# gcc -v
Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.2/specs
Configured with: ../srcdir/configure --prefix=/usr
Thread model: posix
gcc version 3.2

I configured with "--prefix=/usr" in order to install over the
previous instance of GCC 2.96 (or whatever it is), included in the
distribution. Thank you very much for all your hard work on this
wonderful tool that I use all the time.

Sincerely,

Matthew W. Funk

Thanks! Your message is linked from the GCC 3.2 build status list at
http://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-3.2/buildstat.html.

Installing over the compiler that comes with your distribution is
generally not a good idea.

Madam Janis
