This now works correctly in more recent versions of gdb.  Since this patch:

            Daniel Jacobowitz  <dan@codesourcery.com>

        * linux-thread-db.c (thread_db_wait): Remove libthread_db
        after exec events.

GDB now unloads the thread_db layer as soon as the exec event
is detected.
