The only symbols visible to gdb at any time are those it was passed as
arguments. No locally declared variables can be 'print'ed or otherwise
referenced or examined.

There isn't enough information in this bug report to go on.

What compiler and platform are you using?
Can you possibly upgrade from 6.6 (this is pretty old)?
Can you provide a simple reproducer?

You are correct. I collected this info from a colleague, he refuses to come up
with a test case. We noted the age of 6.6, and of the gcc (4.1.2) version in
use. I've marked this one 'suspended', you may kill it altogether. My colleague
cannot come up with that test case. So be it, sorry to have troubled you.
