            Bug ID: 15784
           Summary: breakpoint set on a noop
           Product: gdb
           Version: 7.3
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: breakpoints
          Assignee: unassigned at sourceware dot org
          Reporter: bkorb at gnu dot org

Created attachment 7117

snapshot of the failed break point

GNU gdb (GDB) 7.3.50.20110816-cvs

I cannot set a breakpoint on this function ("insight" display):

      248    regular_opts(tOptions * opts)
    - 249    {
      250        /* assert:  opts->fOptSet & OPTPROC_IMMEDIATE == 0 */
      251        for (;;) {
    - 252            tOptState opt_st = OPTSTATE_INITIALIZER(DEFINED);
      253
    - 254            switch (next_opt(opts, &opt_st)) {

The assembly code looks like this:

    0x4268d0 <regular_opts>:    push   %rbp
    0x4268d1 <regular_opts+1>:    mov    %rsp,%rbp
    0x4268d4 <regular_opts+4>:    sub    $0x30,%rsp
    0x4268d8 <regular_opts+8>:    mov    %rdi,-0x28(%rbp)
    0x4268dc <regular_opts+12>:    jmp    0x4268df <regular_opts+15>
    0x4268de <regular_opts+14>:    nop <<== BREAKPOINT SET HERE
    0x4268df <regular_opts+15>:    movq   $0x0,-0x20(%rbp)
    0x4268e7 <regular_opts+23>:    movq   $0x0,-0x18(%rbp)
    0x4268ef <regular_opts+31>:    movl   $0x4,-0x10(%rbp)
    0x4268f6 <regular_opts+38>:    movl   $0x0,-0xc(%rbp)
    0x4268fd <regular_opts+45>:    lea    -0x20(%rbp),%rdx
