I will mark this as "new" based on your report.
You're the only person using overlays that I think I have
ever heard from. As you can imagine the feature isn't
very actively maintained in gdb.
I suspect the most likely fix for this would have to come from you,
sorry to bring bad news.

gdb patch review is all done on the gdb-patches list.
