Crashes when trying to attach to a running process. I guess the issue is that
"gdb was run from a dir which was deleted". Still, crashing in this case is
confusing. Rather should say a message like "PWD doesn't exist" and exit, not
crash.

A fair amount of code in gdb seems to assume that the cwd
exists.
I wonder what the right thing to do is here.  It's a weird situation.
