It would be very useful to allow for end-users to override nsswitch.conf (at
least for the hosts database), and /etc/resolv.conf too, so we can avoid
horrors like this LD_PRELOAD hack:

One could say that the reason why those configuration files are system-only is
for security reasons, but as visible here, LD_PRELOAD hacks, and user-space
implementations of old-school DNS, or DNS over HTTPS already exist that negate
that security angle.
