confirm the error,  
support the desire for improvement,  
powers of ten are important for rounding other values,  
problematic enough that they are exact only from 10^0 ... 10^22 (in doubles),  
they do not need additional deviations,  
IMHO IEEE 754 specifies:  
 - `as calculated with infinite precision and then rounded to representable
precision', 
   and for 'midpoints': 
 - 'to the even' - last bit 0, 
at least with -O0 gcc should fulfill such ...???
would set to new but lack the power or the role.
