Ok, they are missing from gsl/. What is the result of

ls -l */*complex_long*

in the top level directory,

i.e. are the original files unpacked correctly from the tar file?

For reference this is what is in the tar file,

bjg|debian> tar tvfz ~/gslstuff/gsl-ftp/gsl-0.9.3.tar.gz | grep complex_long
-rw-rw-r-- 1000/1000 2740 2001-04-18 22:52 gsl-0.9.3/block/gsl_block_complex_long_double.h

It should work... can you send the full log of the build up to that
point. You might want to look in the gsl/ subdirectory and see if
'make' has run successfully there and created the appropriate symbolic
links.

I seem to be missing the header file
gsl/gsl_vector_complex_long_double.h. I get the following error message
from make (Mac OS 10.1, gcc 2.95.2):

Making all in vector
make[2]: *** No rule to make target
`../gsl/gsl_vector_complex_long_double.h', needed by `init.lo'. Stop.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Rodney

Brian:

Ummm. I'm running HFS+ already. Maybe there's a bug in tar or gzip. I'll
check into that. But, you might want to think about some kind of
compartmentalization. It's not just for me. There are other reasons that
people might want or need to do that.

Thanks, Rodney

No way to do that I'm afraid it is all mixed in. You'll need to
compile on a Mac filesystem that supports long filenames, either UFS
or HFS+. They both handle filenames up to 255 characters I believe.

I could have been wrong about HFS+ supporting 255-character filenames,
I just got that information from a google search --- it did say
something about applications writing the filenames with 31-characters,
even though the underlying filesystem allowed 255. UFS should be fine
though.

Brian:

It's not really feasible to change the source code. There are just too
many filenames that are longer than 31 characters of the "complex"
variety. How can I turn off complex matrix arithmetic? With a -D? I'm
not really going to miss it anyways.

Thanks, Rodney
