Thanks for the info. I have noted Cygwin as a working platform on the
webpage. Not sure why it would be so slow.

Some operations under Cygwin are unbelievably slow. All the (non-GSL)
builds I do under Cygwin are incredibly slow compared to their unix
counterparts.

Probably you use a win9* box. Cygwin under NT works much faster.
