HI

I have Insight 5.1.1. I've noticed something similar.

This was my ref:
http://sources.redhat.com/ecos/multi-ice.html

I noticed that I can connect through the gdb console window by typing in the
command ....

Wow! That is a VERY old version. Any reason why you're using something
several years old? I suggest you try something newer.

You have to use that version in order to build the multi-ice-gdb-server, as
it is the latest version compatible with cygwin, and the
multi-ice-gdb-server only works with cygwin...

But I am using the newest version of insight on my linux box - could the
problem be a version conflict ?! Hmm....

Ugh. Is the multiice server really that closely coupled to a version of
GDB? I wouldn't think so. In fact, the last time I built it, I didn't
even have GDB lying around anywhere. You should be able to merge this
into something newer, but it should not matter. I would not, however,
run anything < 5.2 on cygwin. There were major issues with gdb in that
release. (And I'm sure Insight had it share of problems, too.)

You could try using an earlier gdb. Maybe there was a change in newer
releases which breaks the multi-ice server. The only way to know is to
find out.

Your next recourse, given that this is a GDB problem, will be to send a
session (server and host) to the gdb mailing list
(gdb@sources.redhat.com) asking for help, adivce, etc. You should
probably also "set debug remote 1" so that protocol debug messages are
sent to stdout. This may help someone recognize what is wrong.

Yeah, someone already whispered that in my ear - but still doesn't work...

Now I get the following error:

multi-ice-gdb-server:

Don't quite follow the version discussion about insight though! The
multi-ice-gdb-server won't compile unless I use insight 5.1.1, but I'm using
5.3 on linux when connecting. Should I use 5.1.1 on linux aswell, or should
I use the latest version at all times ?

I would strongly recommend either a snapshot or CVS head. These are the
only releases of Insight I ever use. I little idea what shape 5.3 is in,
but a lot of work has been done since 5.3, including a new, stock Tcl/Tk
8.4. Aside from one or two configury changes (tcl installs itself in the
wrong place), it is IDENTICAL to the "official" tcl at sourceforge.net.

The MultiICE server you've built speaks gdb's remote protocol, not
ARM's. Use "Remote/TCP" instead of "Remote ARM/TCP".

I have now build the multi-ice-gdb-server under cygwin. The ARM multi-ice
server (2.3) is running on my win host pc, with the multi-ice hardware and
my target all connected through the parallel port. This works and the server
is configured correctly.
Then I run the multi-ice-gdb-server also on the host pc. The multi-ice
server says "Debugger connected ...." and everything looks good. I then turn
to my linux-box and run insight/gdb. Set up the target with the "Remote ARM
TCP" connection and press "connect to target". It tries to connect - on the
host pc, the multi-ice-gdb-server says "Got connection from [linux-box IP]",
but after that insight/gdb says "Could not reset the board, try pressing the
reset button" with some explanation of how it could not connect and that I
should check my settings.
Resetting the target locally on the host pc from the multi-ice server works
fine - but doesn't help.

Also, if I hook off "reset system on startup" on the multi-ice dll dialog
(comes up when starting multi-ice-gdb-server), I get the following error
from multi-ice-gdb-server.

"rdi error = 259
Error #259 opening module module 0
Unable to stop target processor.
Check the server configuration matches the target system, the target
is powered up, not in reset and can operate at the TCK setting used.
Error opening target.
Exiting..."

The set up looks ok now right ?! This is supposed to work ? Any ideas ?

Paul

That looks like it might work. To be clear, however, I am not at all
interested in this code any more. So the someone for whom it "probably
wouldn't be too hard to rev the code..." will certainly not be me ;-(

The multi-ice-gdb-server is a bridge between Arm's multi-ice driver and
the gdb remote protocol. At least when I did this, Arm only had a
Windows driver for the multi-ice, so you run the multi-ice-gdb-server
on Linux. If ARM has released a Linux driver, it probably wouldn't be
too hard to rev the code to build on Linux. But otherwise, it would be
pointless...

Hi,

After having some trouble building the multi-ice-gdb-server under linux,
I've suddenly got the feeling that this might be a cygwin only solution ?!
I'm having a hard time imagining how this could be the case, but if it
really is, can someone please confirm it ?!

If not, and I should be able to get the job done using linux, I need some
help - look at my trouble below.

Paul
