What causes the decreases in errors?  If it's the compiler version we
obviously cannot use the patch until we bump the minimum compiler
requirement.

I don't know.  The file has been touched last more than 2 years ago,
around the gcc 3.2.2 release.

Also, there has been a major libm update in between, I really doubt this
is compiler dependent.
