Using -Wl,--gc-sections is mandatory if you want to link against 
libbsd.a. In general, it is recommended for RTEMS applications.

For pipe() support in RTEMS, you currently need the

#define CONFIGURE_IMFS_ENABLE_MKFIFO

application configuration option.
