Hey.
As far as I understand, it's newlib that maps Cygwins POSIX XATTRs
into Windows EAs, right?
Was there ever any consideration or effort, to make these readable as
"normal" POSIX XATTRs from the Linux vfat/ntfs/etc. drivers (perhaps
via some special mount option like mapped-xattrs=cygwin or so)?
Would be quite useful for me at least ;-)

No, xattr handling is Cygwin-only. Filesystem-specific features
like xattr, or ACLs are beyond the scope of newlib.
