  I still can not run ssh-agent !
It claims about
Bad mode or owner for directory '/tmp/ssh-muller'
echo Agent creation failed, no agent started

  I am using CYGWIN 1.1.1 on a windows 95 machine !

The maintainer for cygwin/ssh is vinschen@cygnus.com. I'd suggest starting
a dialog with her.

Or even, gasp!, send mail to the cygwin mailing list.

Maybe. I haven't looked at the ssh code, but I'll make a couple of
guesses.

      I am using CYGWIN 1.1.1 on a windows 95 machine !

I believe that there is a version of ssh specifically for windows
machines that doesn't use cygwin. I don't know anything about it
though.

Assuming he goes with the present version rather than find & install
the windows specific version --

Despite the message, it might be paranoia regarding / and /tmp rather
than /tmp/ssh-muller. Check the owner, group, and permissons of both
/ and /tmp.

Some programs (sendmail comes to mind) *really* care about permissions
and ownerships. If sendmail was using a directory of /tmp/ssh-muller,
and you didn't override its pickiness, it would insist that:

. / and /tmp have very particular owners and groups
. / not be world writable
. /tmp either not be world writable (yeah, right) or that it have the
sticky bit set (so that only root, the owner of the directory, or
the owner of a file in the directory could rename or delete the file).

I'm not saying that Windows 95 would honor it; but if it is possible
to set the sticky bit (I don't know if Cygwin supports it), it would
be worth a try.

Alternatively, there might be an environment variable to tell ssh /
ssh-agent to use some other directory -- a directory where you have
more control over the permissions.

If the above doesn't solve it, I don't know what to suggest other than
grabbing the source and figuring out what it is complaining about.

Good luck.
