I need to have GNATS write access. Mark Mitchell pointed me to
"overseers". Can someone set this up?

Thanks.

Folks, I'll take care of it.

A general question: Do new GCC contributors now automatically get a
GNATS account set up from the beginning?

If so, we don't need to document the procedure how to obtain one on
the web, else we should (and I'm going to do so).

In this case, can I mention the overseers address there? If so, can
we have an alias overseers@gcc.gnu.org, please? (Trust me, this will
save a couple of us some undesirable discussions later on... :-/)

We should. It's probably been mentioned here, but what procedures do we need

It's really simple. ;-)

  [gerald@sourceware ~]$ cd /sourceware/gnats/gcc-db/gnats-adm
  [gerald@sourceware gnats-adm]$ grep jbuck *

Someone already did this, it seems, but now one has to be root to change
the GNATS account files:

  -rw-r--r-- 1 root gcc 6882 Mar 11 17:30 responsible

Is this intentional, that is, should I keep this when I make changes in
the future? (Until now, I added/edited GNATS accounts as user gerald.)

Hi,

Please could you give me write access to the GCC GNATS? Blindly following
the instructions on the web page (putting "GNATS access only" in the SSH
key part) gives:

Your identity.pub entry is incorrectly formatted

Thanks,

Hi,

I've got CVS write access to gcc already (I'm particularly interested in
objc) but once I fix bugs, I can't close them on GNATS :-(

I tried the procedure described in

http://gcc.gnu.org/gnatswrite.html

to get GNATS write access, but it didn't work ... if I put 'GNATS access
only' in the ssh key part, the form is refused.

Can you look at the problem ?

Thanks.

I filled in the GNATS write access form, but the system is rejecting it
because it says that the identity.pub field is incorrectly formatted.

I already have ssh access, I just need GNATS write permissions. The
GNATS instructions at http://www.gnu.org/software/gcc/gnatswrite.html
indicate that I should write 'GNATS access only' in the identity.pub
field.

Could someone fix the form or grant me write access to GNATS?

Hello,

I've been reading about the gcc branch on the gcc mailing list. It
seems that
there's a need for volunteers to investigate the 900+ bugs currently
filed
against gcc. I've looked at a few in the past, and observed that some
where
filed by people who actually had coding errors or misunderstandings
rather than
compiler bugs. If I get get write access to GNATS, I'd happily take
some time
to review a number of bugs.

As for who I am? A programmer of 17 years experience, recently
concentrating
on C++, Java and Perl. I've been a moderator of comp.std.c++ since
1999,
alongside Phil Edwards amongst others. I've not submitted any patches
to gcc,
although I do have some experience of making local modifications, and
I've
submitted patches to many other projects.

I'm by no means desparate to get GNATS access -- if you say no, it'll
just
save me time. If I can help, I'll be happy to do what I can.

Regards,

James Dennett <jdennett@acm.org>

Hello,

I would like to have GNATS write access, please.

I presume that you are still working on the open bug list looking for
regressions from GCC 2.95.3 in the GCC 3.0 branch. Is this correct?

Thanks for your attention.

I knew I was forgetting something.

Somebody with root privs was going to set up an account for you, with
GNATS but without CVS, and I forgot to remind him. Tom? Chris? Anyone?

Since CVS isn't an issue, he shouldn't need to provide a key. I happen
to know that jdennett@gcc.gnu.org -> jdennett@acm.org is the preferred
username and forwarding email address... that should be all we need...?

James, send me email if you need any help with GNATS client programs once
this account is created. I use a combination of tkinfo and gnatsweb/lynx,
but that's because I'm insane.

Thanks guys!
Phil

Hello,

I would like to have GNATS write access, please.

I presume that you are still working on the open bug list looking for
regressions from GCC 2.95.3 in the GCC 3.0 branch. Is this correct?

Thanks for your attention.

Hi,

Please may I be granted GNATS write access?

Mark Mitchell has accepted my offer to help with the pre-3.0 bug
classification.

Thanks,

   Tony

That's done. I've included my .ssh/identity.pub from the machine which
I tend to use.

I'll do this.
James, please fill out the form at
http://sources.redhat.com/cgi-bin/pdw/ps_form.cgi and use
pedwards@disaster.jaj.com as the approver.

I guess that in this case, your ssh public key is optional but, in
the interests of consistency, it would probably be nice if you could
supply one, if you do have one.

Hello,

I've been reading about the gcc branch on the gcc mailing list. It
seems that
there's a need for volunteers to investigate the 900+ bugs currently
filed
against gcc. I've looked at a few in the past, and observed that some
where
filed by people who actually had coding errors or misunderstandings
rather than
compiler bugs. If I get get write access to GNATS, I'd happily take
some time
to review a number of bugs.

As for who I am? A programmer of 17 years experience, recently
concentrating
on C++, Java and Perl. I've been a moderator of comp.std.c++ since
1999,
alongside Phil Edwards amongst others. I've not submitted any patches
to gcc,
although I do have some experience of making local modifications, and
I've
submitted patches to many other projects.

I'm by no means desparate to get GNATS access -- if you say no, it'll
just
save me time. If I can help, I'll be happy to do what I can.

Regards,

James Dennett <jdennett@acm.org>

To my knowledge I do not yet have an account.
Could that be rectified?

Jeff,

While we're at it, I'd like to reiterate my request -- that is GNATS
write access :-)

The access should be for gdr@codesourcery.com

Thanks,
