Bug ID: 16342
Summary: stap --list-servers lists spurious line when having
two stap-serverd instances
Product: systemtap
Version: unspecified
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: server
Assignee: systemtap at sourceware dot org
Reporter: jlebon at redhat dot com
Running a single instance (using service stap-server start):
[root@machine.domain ~]# stap --list-servers=all
Systemtap Compile Server Status for 'all'
host=machine.domain address=XX.XX.XX.XX port=36676
sysinfo="3.10.0-55.el7.x86_64 x86_64" version=2.4 certinfo="00:9d:a3:a2:73"
Then, we start a second instance, using e.g. runuser -u test --
/usr/libexec/systemtap/stap-serverd --log=/tmp/mystaplog
[root@machine.domain ~]# stap --list-servers=all
Systemtap Compile Server Status for 'all'
host=machine.domain address=XX.XX.XX.XX port=53964
sysinfo="3.10.0-55.el7.x86_64 x86_64" version=2.4 certinfo="00:9d:b9:70:b9"
host=machine address=XX.XX.XX.XX port=36676 sysinfo="3.10.0-55.el7.x86_64
x86_64" version=2.4 certinfo="00:9d:a3:a2:73"
host=machine.domain address=offline port=unknown sysinfo="unknown"
version=unknown certinfo="00:9d:a3:a2:73"
It seems like the last line makes no sense. It has the same certificate as the
previous line (which correspond to the initial instance), but a different
hostname.

--- Comment #1 from Jonathan Lebon <jlebon at redhat dot com> ---
Fixed in commit 2436ada. For reference, what was happening was that the first
avahi entry would get resolved, but not the second, since the cache reported
that hostname as already resolved. When the time came to merge the avahi
entries, only the first one found its equivalent, while the second one kept its
short hostname(2). Afterwards, since the hostname(2) doesn't match the hostname
in the database, we see the 'offline' line there.
Here is what we see now:
[root@machine.domain ~]# stap --list-servers=all
Systemtap Compile Server Status for 'all'
host=machine.domain address=XX.XX.XX.XX port=42444
sysinfo="3.10.0-61.el7.x86_64 x86_64" version=2.4 certinfo="00:9d:bc:89:1e"
host=machine.domain address=XX.XX.XX.XX port=59489
sysinfo="3.10.0-61.el7.x86_64 x86_64" version=2.4 certinfo="00:9d:bc:76:aa"
