I get the following error:

Application initialization failed: no display name and no $DISPLAY environment v
ariable
Error in startup script: no display name and no $DISPLAY environment variable
    while executing
"load /usr/lib/tk8.5/../../bin/libtk8.5.dll Tk"
    ("package ifneeded Tk 8.5.9" script)
    invoked from within
"package require Tk"
    (file "C:\cygwin\bin\gitk" line 11)

I am not running the X server.

It has been a few months since I update cygwin. Until I did git was working fine.
I installed doxygen, and from ports I installed graphviz.

I redacted cygcheck.out

Thanks, Jim Jensen

Have you noted that you have also
D:\cygnus\cygwin-b20\H-i586-cygwin32\bin
in parallel to cygwin-1.7.9

and that libtk8.5.dll is not coming from cygwin ?

By chance, in your last update
"Last downloaded files from: ftp://ftp.cygwinports.org/pub/cygwinports"

  did something go wrong ?

Marco

That's your problem. As Marco points out, you're using Cygwin Ports,
which provides a *NIX/X11 version of tcl/tk. Install the xinit package
and its dependencies to get the Cygwin/X server and the means to easily
start it.

If you have further questions on Cygwin Ports packages, please direct
them to the cygwin-ports-general list.
